From the archives of the United States Cavalry, the true story of Colonel Ranald Mackenzie and the Cavalrymen he led, Mackenzie's Raiders. Operating on secret orders from President Ulysses S. Grant and General Phil Sheridan, Mackenzie's mission was clear-cut, clean up the Southwest...make it a fit place for Americans to live...wipe out the renegades, outlaws and murderers. If necessary, cross the Rio Grande, knowing capture means hanging by the enemy...discovery, court martial by the United States Army. For American Cavalry to make unauthorized raids into Mexico meant risking international incident, but the battle-wise Mackenzie routinely galloped across the border to inflict punishment on marauding bandidos, gun runners and renegade Apaches who raided on American soil then crossed the Rio Grande into Mexico seeking safety. But, if he or his troops were caught, our government would disown him. Mackenzie's forays into Mexico soon made the outlaws think twice about raiding in Texas.

In this 1960 NBC TV western, William Bendix The Life of Riley and Doug McClure The Virginian, Checkmate star as the Overland Stage superintendent and his young sidekick as they struggle to keep the stagecoach safe from thieves, vigilantes, Native Americans and general mayhem as they move the stage line West from Missouri, across the Rockies, and on to California. Bendix shines as Frederick Kelly, the crusty superintendent who, in addition to his official duties, must keep an eye on his more reckless young assistant, Flip Flippen, played by a young Doug McClure in his first series starring role. The chemistry between McClure and Bendix is nowhere more apparent than when the two share danger, but the show is filled with good humor as well, and has been described as a cross between Tales of Wells Fargo and Laredo. Each episode of Overland Trail finds the pair pitted against some new threat to the stage line, and the series although short-lived, has an impressive guest cast list, including Harry Guardino Perilous Passage, John Anderson The High Bridge, Denver Pyle Lawyer in Petticoats, Werner Klemperer The Vigilantes of Montana, Claude Akins Fire in the Hole, Slim Pickens and Mercedes McCambridge Sour Annie, John Carradine The Reckoning, John McIntire The Most Dangerous Gentleman and many more. B&W.

Fans of the long-running Western series will appreciate the archival care that went into this set: Not only does it provide a comprehensive overview of the series' evolution (from original radio shows to one-hour color episodes from the 1960s and '70s), but it also delivers a priceless abundance of oral TV history in the form of audio commentaries, some recorded by series stars and directors (like Dennis Weaver, a.k.a. "Chester") shortly before their death. The fact that this set "is dedicated with love to Dennis Weaver from his Gunsmoke family at CBS" indicates the deep affection that Gunsmoke inspired among cast, crew, and fans alike. This set gathers 15 episodes on three DVDs, with disc 1 containing seven episodes in the black-and-white, half-hour format that Gunsmoke maintained for its first six seasons (1955-61). Alias Smith and Jones - The Complete Series! 50 episodes on 10 DVDs! One of the most popular Western series of the 1970s, 'Alias Smith and Jones' aired on NBC for three years, from 1971-1973. In the tradition of the hit movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, 'Alias Smith and Jones' follows the exploits of former Devil's Hole Gang leaders Kid Curry and Hannibal Heyes (alias Joshua Smith and Thaddeus Jones), a pair of successful and popular outlaws trying to go straight after a lifetime of mostly non-violent banditry. Settling in a small western town, Curry/Jones and Heyes/Smith must stay out of trouble for an indefinite period of time to earn the pardon the Governor will grant if they can keep to the straight and narrow. In the meantime, they are fair game for the bounty hunters and the long arm of the law trying to put them away for good. Only the silver tongue of Heyes/Smith and the fast draw of Curry/Jones, (plus occasional help from their friends on both sides of the law!) keep them out of the hoosegow. Starring Ben Murphy and Pete Duel as the two charming rogues, the series features a strong cast of recurring characters, including Burl Ives (Big Mac McCreedy) and Walter Brennan (Silky O'Sullivan), as well as an outstanding roster of guest stars including Burl Ives, Pernell Roberts, Susan Oliver, Alan Hale, Jr., Claudine Longet, Rory Calhoun, Jack Cassidy, Neville Brand, Chill Wills, Slim Pickens and John Russell, many of whom made multiple appearances on the show. Narrator Roger Davis took on the role of Hannibal Heyes, following the untimely and unfortunate death of Pete Duel during the second season. Includes the 90 minute pilot, co-starring James Drury (The Virginian), John Russell (The Lawman) and Susan St. James (McMillan and Wife).
