Riddick (Unrated Director's Cut Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD UltraViolet)
Manufacturer: Universal Studios Home Entertainment Brand: UNI DIST CORP. (MCA)
Vin Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick in the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga. A dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy, Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for him to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. With time running out and a deadly storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy. Also starring Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Karl Urban (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Dave Bautista (WWE). Experience the Riddick Unrated Director’s Cut with an alternate ending! Pitch Black, the first collaboration between writer-director David Twohy and Vin Diesel, stands as a model genre movie, presenting an ingeniously taut narrative while also giving Diesel ample room to develop an antihero for the ages. The success of that film led to the unexpectedly baroque The Chronicles of Riddick, which greatly expanded the scope, but to somewhat diminished effect. The duo's third go-around wisely returns to the roots of the character, delivering a small-scale, gleefully vulgar film that occasionally resembles a berserk sci-fi version of Man vs. Wild. Featuring some way-cool critters and no shortage of gallows humor, it knows exactly what it is: half B-movie, half awesome 1970s van art. Quickly dispensing with the ornate mythology of the last installment (respect to Karl Urban for returning, however briefly), the story finds Riddick left for dead, on a planet where absolutely everything wants to eat him. As he begins his quest to dominate the local flora and fauna, matters are complicated by the appearance of two teams of bounty hunters (including Katee Sackhoff and the gargantuan Dave Bautista) searching for his chromed dome. Twohy keeps things mean and reasonably lean throughout, giving the squabbling mercenaries some enjoyably hissable personality traits while hurtling toward an intense siege finale. Fun as Riddick's second half is, though, it's that primal, largely nonverbal first section that makes the film really work, paring back the character to his rumbling alpha-male essence as he pummels his way up the food chain. At a time when most entries in the genre either swell to ill-fitting blockbuster proportions or devolve into winking irony, there's something rather admirable about those just content to deliver the disreputable goods. Long may Space Conan reign. --Andrew Wright

Bleach Uncut Set 16
Manufacturer: WarnerBrothers Brand: Warner Manufacturing Model: 25939450
Bleach Uncut Set 16A mysterious man has given physical form to the Zanpakuto of all captains and lieutenants of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads. Newly liberated, the Zanpakuto wreak havoc upon the Soul Society and their former masters. Can Ichigo and the Thirteen Court Guard Squads rein them in before it's too late? More importantly, are they ready to uncover the truth, lies and deceit that await them?]]> The 16th set of Bleach comprises the first half of the "Zanpakuto Unknown Tales Arc" (episodes 230 to 265), an anime-only storyline that made up the 13th season of Tite Kubo's hit fantasy-adventure. The Zanpakuto is both the weapon of a Soul Reaper and a mirror of his personality and strength; the two seem irrevocably joined. So chaos reigns in the Seireitei when mysterious warriors appear, shattering buildings and defeating Soul Reapers who can't summon their accustomed weapons. The murderous warriors prove to be physical manifestations of the Zanpakutos, who have risen in revolt at the urging of the reptilian Maramasa. But as he discovers to his chagrin, Maramasa's control is not absolute: Ichigo wins back his Zanpakuto, Zangetsu, using the formidable strength of his Hollow alter ego. Hitsugaya draws on memories to restore ice dragon-like Hyorinmaru's loyalty, and Renji regains control of the monkey and serpent spirits of his Zanpakuto through sheer stubbornness. Perhaps the greatest threat to the warriors of the Soul Society is Rukia's brother, Captain Byakuya, who joins the revolt to prove his inflated image of himself. For all its battles, duels, and jazzy effects, the "Zanpakuto Tales" story begins rather slowly; it takes the filmmakers several episodes to find their footing. Once they do, the trademark humor of the series begins to manifest itself, and the action becomes more exciting as the viewer starts to feel involved in the struggle. The final battle of the "Zanpakuto Unknown Tales Arc" in the next set should be quite a spectacle. Warehouse 13: Season 4
Manufacturer: Universal Studios Home Entertainment Brand: UNIVERSAL Model: 025192168987
Prepare for more paranormal thrills, chills and excitement as Warehouse 13 returns with more action-packed mysteries than ever before! After the destruction of the Warehouse, the agents risk the use of a mythical artifact in an attempt to restore all they've lost. But the use of this dangerous artifact could change the Warehouse team and the world forever. Featuring guest appearances by Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Sam Huntington (Being Human) and other sci-fi favorites, this five-disc set includes all 20 Season Four episodes plus a cache of classified bonus content including a never-before-seen chapter of the animated web series "Grand Designs." At the end of season three of Warehouse 13, the titular structure, an enormous facility in South Dakota also known as "America's attic" and "the world's junk drawer," was blown to smithereens, taking with it the mass of strange and wondrous artifacts that had been housed there. Since these objects are the SyFy series' raison d'être, something must be done to remedy this disaster--and sure enough, we're not even finished with the first of the 20 episodes included in the five-disc season-four boxed set before Special Agent in Charge Artie Nielsen (Saul Rubinek) has managed to turn back time by 24 hours and prevent the explosion. But Warehouse agents aren't supposed to use artifacts for their own ends--on the contrary, their job is to make sure they stay out of the hands of anyone who seeks to exploit them, whether by design or by accident--and the one he chooses is an astrolabe, a navigation device that once belonged to Ferdinand Magellan and now visits some very bad, season-long mojo on Artie and the others (a major reveal in the ninth episode explains but doesn't fully resolve the issue). Much of the season involves tracking down various missing artifacts, some whimsical, some unpredictable and very dangerous: the first pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses makes its wearer invisible. Explorer Richard Byrd's smoking pipe creates lightning and terrifying storms. A medal belonging to Saint Joseph of Cupertino has powers of levitation. Author Lewis Carroll's mirror, making a return appearance from season one, houses a very evil Alice. Suicidal poet Sylvia Plath's typewriter can suck the life out of you, while Pancho Villa's boots numb feelings of guilt or grief. More than the storylines, it's the artifacts that make Warehouse 13 entertaining and fun, along with the show's overall cheeky tone, smart dialogue, and a cast of characters who enjoy nothing more than exchanging rapid-fire witticisms (Eddie McClintock's somewhat dim Agent Pete Lattimer and Allison Scagliotti's Claudia Donovan, a sharp-tongued computer genius, are particularly amusing). Sure, the show will remind many of a cross between The X-Files and the Indiana Jones movies. Then again, those are some pretty decent role models. --Sam Graham
