Not content with his job as a bouncer, Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) dreams of a more rewarding job and gaining his parents respect. When a chance encounter with an on-ice thug leads to a fistfight that Doug easily wins, the on-looking coach sees Doug's potential, in spite of his lack of any hockey playing ability. Joining the team and with the encouragement of his best friend (Jay Baruchel), Doug quickly becomes a rising star. Soon he'll have the opportunity to face-off against the infamous league thug, Ross Rhea (Liev Schreiber), perhaps finally land a girlfriend and stick to a job he enjoys. Now all he needs to do is learn to skate. The amusing and impressive thing about the movie is that the script (by costar Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg) posits Doug not as a meanie but as a puzzled innocent who really, sincerely wants to help his team. Alison Pill is just right as th...

A Miracle on Christmas Lake
Manufacturer: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Sixteen-year-old Bobby Whiteside (Kristian Jackson, “Heartlandâ€) hates the holidays. As a young boy, he was abandoned by his father (Ryan Northcott, Mystery, Alaska) two weeks before Christmas, and just recently he lost his best friend (Joe Perry, American Virgins). All he can think about is escaping his hometown. He quits his favorite game of hockey, turns his back on his high school teammates and isolates himself from his mother (Anne Hawthorne, The Other Woman). One night he makes an amazing discovery on the lake by his home—a magic, perfectly-groomed hockey rink that only he can see. But just as his nighttime hockey excursions begin to resurrect his Christmas spirit, he learns a local construction company helmed by his brother (Jayson Therrien, “Fargoâ€) plans to develop the land around the lake.
