Dinner For Five - Season 1
Manufacturer: Fox Lorber Brand: IFC, Independent Film Channel
"...not just informative and entertaining, but also pleasantly authentic and intimate in the current publicist-controlled era." -Elle Magazine "It's free-flowing and uncensored, sometimes vulgar, sometimes deep, sometimes just plain silly - like a real dinner party, because it is a real dinner party." -The Philadelphia Inquirer "It's funny, original and refreshing, this series with candid roundtable discussions and good grub. Between bites, Jon Favreau's dinner guests tell what goes on behind the scenes in filmmaking and television production . . . It's as uncanny as it is unscripted . . . Even if you can't dine and converse with them - the camera direction makes you feel you re part of the conversation. The dinner talk often involves meaty issues concerning the entertainment industry and offers a look at life beyond the red carpet." -Hollywood Reporter Jon Favreau sits down with a variety of personalities from film, television, music and comedy, for a frank discussion of the acting industry, the movie business in general, and of celebrity, in particular. DVD extras include: Option to view enhanced commentary, Never before seen segments, Outtakes, Guest biographies WITH APPEARANCES BY: Joey Lauren Adams, Sean Astin, Jennifer Beals, Peter Berg, Saffron Burrows, Sean Combs, David Cross, Andy Dick, Illeana Douglas, Peter Falk, Adam Goldberg, Jeff Goldblum, Seth Green, Daryl Hannah, Bonnie Hunt, Kevin James, Famke Janssen, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Juliette Lewis, Ron Livingston, Faizon Love, Marilyn Manson, Cheri Oteri, Vincent Pastore, Martha Plimpton, Kevin Pollak, Michael Rapaport, Ray Romano, Garry Shandling, Sarah Silverman, Christian Slater, Rod Steiger, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Vince Vaughn, Fred Willard and Dwight Yoakam. For filmmakers, actors, and chronic eavesdroppers everywhere, it's a genuine privilege to watch Dinner for Five. As the congenial host of this popular Independent Film Channel series, writer-director-actor Jon Favreau (Swingers, Made, Elf) brings credibility and comfort to his diverse quartets of dinner guests, all of whom bring valuable experience to the table. A certain degree of self-censorship and diplomacy is to be expected, but Favreau encourages candor and free-flowing insight as his famous guests enjoy fine dining in trendy Los Angeles and New York City restaurants (all of which are detailed in a helpful bonus feature). The series' intimate concept allows guests (from TV, film, and music) to loosen up and reveal the inner workings of the entertainment world, primarily (but not exclusively) from the perspective of acting--a profession as heartbreaking as it is potentially rewarding. Ranging from 22 to 40 minutes in length, each episode offers memorable revelations (Joey Lauren Adams dislikes filming love scenes; Peter Falk calls Vince Vaughn a scene-stealing "hog"; Ron Livingstone jokingly speculates about "the dark side" of Tom Hanks; Juliette Lewis recalls her famous seduction scene with Robert De Niro in Martin...

Midnight Blue Collection Volume 3: Celebrities Edition
Manufacturer: Blue Underground Brand: Ryko Distribution
In addition to a depraved parade of porn and politics, MIDNIGHT BLUE shocked late-night cable with its scandalous celebrity segments and jaw-dropping star interviews. These are the famous - and infamous - like you've never seen or heard them before:"The Barbra Streisand Porno Movie": Only MIDNIGHT BLUE dared to televise the '60s stag film alleged to show the singer/actress the way she was.O.J. Simpson: The sports legend and suspected murderer is captured at the 1979 Hooker's Ball sharing his thoughts on sex, crime and prostitution. The Rob Lowe Sex Tape: The uncensored broadcast of this explicit sex video nearly destroyed the actor's career.Arnold Schwarzenegger: The future Governor of California discusses his own orgasms and ambitions, accompanied by eye-popping nude photos. The Go-Gos Backstage: The video that rocked the music world, featuring Belinda Carlisle enjoying an after hours masturbation session.R. Crumb: The legendary underground! comic artist holds forth on fans, sexual fantasies and tantric masturbation....plus Gilbert Gottfried, Larry Flynt, Russ Meyer, Penn & Teller, Buck Henry, Tiny Tim, Debbie Harry, Garrett Morris and more, Al Goldstein's hilarious "F%$# Y*@!" rants targeting Howard Stern, Donald Trump, Sean Penn and Jack Nicholson, plus vintage commercials for New York City's call girls, orgy rooms, gay bathhouses and beyond! Think celebrities embarrassing themselves on camera is a recent phenomenon? Nope--Al Goldstein, publisher of Screw magazine, was making hay with them back in the '80s with his notorious cable access show, Midnight Blue, and now the best (worst?) of these Hollywood horror stories have been compiled for this DVD. The emphasis here shifts away from the porn-centric interviews of the first two volumes of Midnight Blue to explore the seamier side of mainstream pop culture, though interviews with Hustler chief Larry Flynt and exploitation legend Russ Meyer hew closely to the core Midnight Blue/Goldstein aesthetic (i.e., slobbering over women, though the Meyer talk is informative and well-conducted). The other interviews offer glimpses of celebrities at their rawest and weirdest: Goldstein's co-host Alex Bennett debates the authenticity of a XXX loop that reportedly stars Barbra Streisand (it doesn't); O.J. Simpson lurks at a hooker convention; Robert Crumb airs his particular obsessions; Tiny Tim unleashes a graphic monologue about his personal life; and a pre-superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger discusses the merits of bodybuilding (and is seen posing with a naked woman). Two infamous bootleg videotapes are also aired: the Rob Lowe sex scandal tape, and a backstage blowout with the Go-Go's, who abuse an abysmally drunken roadie. As with the other Midnight Blue discs, Vol. 3 includes a barrage of original ad spots for New York's swing clubs, adult novelties, and porn movies, as well as a pop-up trivia text track that offers ephemeral info on the talent gathered on this DVD. --Paul Gaita

Johnny Carson: Carson Country
Manufacturer: Carson Entertainment Brand: Carson
It's an all star, all American country line-up! We've opened the vaults and re-discovered treasured memories with Johnny's favorite country stars! These priceless and collectible moments are now yours in this exclusive DVD! Includes musical performances from The Judds, Dwight Yoakum, and Johnny Cash. This collection of Tonight Show clips opens with a song from the host. When Joan Embery, from the San Diego Zoo, brings a bush dog to the set, Johnny Carson croons a ballad to the little creature. Other surprises await as this set, which spans 1964-1989, defines "country" in the broadest possible terms. That means standup comedians (Blake Clark, a brunette Brett Butler), TV stars (Michael Landon, Jay "Tonto" Silverheels), ventriloquists (Ronn Lucas), poets (Baxter Black), and stuntmen (Hal Needham, Smokey and the Bandit). Even a horseshoe throwing champion, a cowbell collector, two hollerin' contest winners, and a 97-year-old farmer get in on the action. For most viewers, the highlights will be the music and guest spots from silver screen cowboys, like Roy Rogers and John Wayne in a surprise walk-on. Songs include "Streets of Bakersfield" (Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens), "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days)" (the satin-suited Judds, giving the ladies of Dynasty a run for the money), and "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash, from a rare black and white kinescope). They’re fine performances all. As always, half the fun comes from Carson's deadpan reactions and valiant efforts to stifle the laughter when things get out of hand. Even a few non-country celebrities, like Ryan O'Neal, get roped into Carson Country. "I can't stand it!" exclaims Naomi Judd, when she realizes daughter Wynonna is sitting next to the Love Story star. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
