You Bet Your Life, Volume 2
Manufacturer: Alpha Video
Model: 2233310
Groucho Marx matches wits with the American public in four episodes of this classic game show. Starting on the radio in 1947, "You Bet Your Life" made its television debut in 1950 and aired for 11 years with Groucho as host and emcee. Sponsored rather conspicuously by the Dodge DeSoto car manufacturers, the show featured two contestants working as a team to answer questions for cash prizes. Another mainstay of these question and answer segments was the paper mache duck that would descend from the ceiling with one hundred dollars in tow whenever a player uttered the "secret word." The quiz show aspect of "You Bet Your Life" was always secondary, to the clever back-and-forth between host and contestant, which found Groucho at his funniest. It's in these interview segments that "You Bet Your Life" truly makes its mark as one of early television's greatest programs.
The Best of Oblivious
Manufacturer: Eagle Rock
Oblivious is the game show you don't even know you're on -- where being in the right place at the right time can win you money. Using hidden camera field segments, unsuspecting people are stealthily quizzed by Regan Burns, our well-disguised host, where they least suspect it.
Kenny Vs. Spenny - Season One
Manufacturer: Video Service Corp
Brand: iNetVideo
Canada's odd couple of competition - best friends pitted in battle - glory for the winner and humiliation for the loser. Roommates and filmmakers Kenny and Spenny (Hotz and Rice respectively) have torqued up the old playground challenge to a whole new level of humiliation and degradation. From the physical (Who can lose the most weight?) to the psychiatric (Who is the sanest?) to the psychotic (Who can sit on a cow the longest?), Kenny vs Spenny turn the tables, cameras and just about everything else upside down in twenty-four no holds barred bouts of hilarity in the most unique offering in the "reality competition" genre. Kenny is the self proclaimed 'devious genius,' a schemer and a cheater - "I'm like the tormenting brother he never had and probably didn't want." Spenny is neurotic, stressed-out, ethical and by-the-book - "Winning one by playing fair is more satisfying than winning a thousand times by cheating." And so the battle of GOOD vs EVIL rages on!

Great Quiz Shows Of The '50s Featuring ""Stump The Stars
Manufacturer: Alpha Home Entertainment
Model: 29112024
Originally titled ""Pantomime Quiz,"" this Emmy-winning TV game show premiered as a local series in 1947 and appeared intermittently - both in syndication and on the CBS network - until 1970. The format couldn't have been simpler: two teams of celebrity panelists were joined every episode by a guest star and played Charades. It was a natural for television, drawing on the pantomime skills of Hollywood and New York actors and requiring nothing by way of special sets or costumes. Series producer Mike Stokey also acted as the amiable host, and under his guidance ""Stump the Stars"" pioneered the game-show tradition of showing its big-name performers in a relaxed, casual setting; ad-libbing was not only permitted but also encouraged, and even Stokey's introductions are delivered in a refreshingly off-the-cuff manner. This DVD features four episodes from the 1963 season, during which the regulars were Sebastian Cabot, Beverly Garland, Stubby Kaye, Ruta Lee, Richard Long, and Ross Martin. The guest stars include Nick Adams, Ed Begley, Jeanne Crain, Nina Foch, Dean Jones, Michael Landon, Paula Prentiss, Hans Conried and Roger Smith. You'll also see the original commercials for Ajax and the various cereals manufactured by the show's official sponsor, the Ralston Purina Company
