ABC News Primetime Peter Jennings: Ecstasy Rising
Manufacturer: ABC News
In the 1990s Ecstasy seemed to come out of nowhere to join marijuana, cocaine and heroin as one of the four most widely used illegal drugs in the country. No other drug has ever spread so fast. "Peter Jennings Reporting - Ecstasy Rising" tells the definitive story of how an obscure compound, discovered in 1912 and all but forgotten for over 60 years, became the drug of choice for a generation. "Ecstasy Rising" includes significant original reporting and first-time interviews with all the major players: the chemist who first reported the effects of Ecstasy; the California psychotherapists who treated patients with Ecstasy when it was still legal; the Dallas businessman who gave Ecstasy its name and turned it into a recreational drug; the drug enforcement officer who led the fight to make Ecstasy illegal; and the DJ who spread Rave and Ecstasy across America. When sold by Amazon.com, this product will be manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. ABC News Nightline The Tramp: Charlie Chaplin
Manufacturer: ABC News
In 1914, Charlie Chaplin was an obscure British vaudeville actor touring America when he walked into the Keystone Studios in California. He then proceeded to crank out over 30 films in the following eleven months, sometimes making over two films a week, many of which he directed. It was during this time that he adopted his classic tramp character, a landmark moment in film history. In the haste to get the films out, negatives were destroyed, and maybe only twenty prints were made which were then duplicated. Those negatives were then copied, so the films quickly got damaged. Movie theaters would often cut them down (with no real expertise) to save time, so whole scenes were lost. Some films even had different endings. What were left were dozens of different versions of the same film. They were even re-issued with new titles. In 2005, the British Film Institute, together with Cineteca in Bologna, Italy, began scouring the world's archives and private collections for as many different versions as they could find and then painstaking reassembling a new master copy from all the different permutations, to bring them back as close as possible to the original version. Anchor: Ted Koppel. Correspondent: Sue Ellicott. This "Nightline" show also contains the following story: ...

Then assign them to submarines, military bases in Afghanistan, the Jungle Warfare Training Center in Okinawa and nearly 50 other international sites, as well as 80 domestic locations, take 200,000 snapshots and cull them to 250 images for a coffee table book. ABC News talks with three Pulitzer Prize winners among the photographers who were part of the project.
