The Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First SeasonFrom the Creators of 'The Office' and 'Extras' comes the new comedy series, The Ricky Gervais Show. The series is an animated version of Gervais' podcasts that earned a spot in The Guinness Book of World Records for the most downloads. It is voiced by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and colleague and friend Karl Pilkington whose offbeat musings inspire many of the storylines which include the merits of 20th century inventions; Karl's suggestion for population control; how philosophy has evolved through the ages; Karl's round head; and his thoughts on charity.]]>

Includes out takes from the episodes on every disc and a 17 minute film made for DeSoto dealers called The Making of You Bet Your Life included as an extra. In addition to the episodes, the box set includes a treasure trove of original and rare Groucho gems, including his 1947 audition for the original You Bet Your Life radio program! Other rarities included as DVD extras: Groucho's 1947 audition for the original radio show; a promotional recording Groucho made as a Christmas gift to DeSoto dealers; Some original commercials Groucho Marx is arguably the most famous, iconic comedian of all-time. It's funny to think that for all the great films and stage appearances he made throughout his career both in the Marx Brothers act and solo, Groucho seemed to prefer this modestly-produced TV series above all others. Groucho was the emcee and star of this filmed quiz show and though it was ostensibly a game show, the series' most important asset was the humor injected by Groucho into the interviews he did with the contestants You Bet Your Life ran on television from October 5, 1950 - June 29, 1961 (423 episodes), one of the longest running shows in the history of television. (There were also 105 episodes that aired exclusively on radio.) The program was renamed The Groucho Show during its last season and has been seen in syndication as The Best Of Groucho for the last 40 years. With 18 shows that remained unseen since their origin...

Groucho Marx is arguably the most famous, iconic comedian of all time. "You Bet Your Life" began on radio in 1947, ostensibly as a game show, and became a huge hit television program and as big a part of Groucho’s legacy as the amazing movies he made with his brothers earlier in his career. After the start on radio, the show ran through 423 episodes from 1950 – 1961. These 18 episodes are some of the absolute best from over a decade of popular TV, restored for the highest quality sound and picture possible. They feature guest stars like Phyllis Diller, Edgar and Candace Bergen, Joe Louis, Johnny Weismuller, Frankie Avalon, Groucho's daughter Melinda Marx, Harpo Marx and the first appearance of the show's trademark duck. DVD extras include three Groucho pilots including "What Do You Want", "Tell It To Groucho" and the never-before-seen "The Plot Thickens," plus tons of outtakes and bloopers. The secret word for Groucho Marx fans is "DVD." This three-disc set collects a priceless archive of 18 complete and uncut episodes filmed between 1950 and 1960. The surprise success of the radio incarnation of You Bet Your Life assured for Groucho that there would be life after the Marx Brothers, whose film career came to a sad end with 1950's Love Happy. The television series would be an even bigger hit, and make Groucho a household name. You Bet Your Life was ostensibly a quiz show, but it was more just a forum for Groucho to crack wise with the contestants. These were mostly ordinary people with oddball jobs or interests, or extraordinary talents, like the man who blows up a tire's inner-tube on an episode included on disc 2. Knowing now that the program was carefully planned does not diminish the fun. There are many precious spontaneous moments, such as the trombone-playing female contestant who practically swoons over Groucho's announcer/straight man George Fenneman. Appearances by some "special guests" add to this set's nostalgia value. Former Western star Hoot Gibson, Johnny "Tarzan" Weissmuller, and form...

Space Ghost Coast to Coast Vol. 1 (DVD)Superhero-turned-talk show host Space Ghost presents all-new celebrity interviews with strange interactions from his bandleader Zorak and his cameraman Moltar. Live action guest stars include Weird Al Yankovich, Bobcat Goldthwait, The Ramones, Judy Tenuta, Hulk Hogan and more!]]> What would Late Night be like if David Letterman was replaced by a superhero? That's the question posited by the Cartoon Network's original series Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and the answer is: truly odd and frequently hilarious. The series took '60s-era animated crime fighter Space Ghost and reinvented him as the slightly addled host of a celebrity gabfest. SG's awkward chats with guests like David Byrne, Hulk Hogan, and the Ramones were frequently interrupted by his old foes Zorak (now the show's bandleader) and Moltar (director). Deliberately stilted and proudly absurd, the program was a strange but often dead-on parody of hollow celebrity worship, and garnered a loyal cult following. However, those diehard fans may be disappointed by this two-disc set, which features only 16 of the 22 episodes from the first three seasons (a clip from one missing episode, "A Space Ghost Christmas," is included in the supplemental features). Also somewhat of a letdown is the commentary from the show's creative team, which is amusing but rarely informative. --Paul Gaita

Anyone can make themselves unpopular - but it takes a past master like John Cleese to be really irritating! Starring fellow Monty Pyhton alum, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman. And now for something completely rare. This 1968 television special is essential for connoisseurs of British humor and, of course, Monty Python completists. A pre-Python John Cleese teams up with Michael Palin and Graham Chapman (with invaluable assistance from co-Fawlty Towers creator Connie Booth and Tim Brooke-Taylor) for sketches that serve as a master class in demonstrating insincerity, inefficiency, and all-around rude behavior "to help people become more neurotic." The tricky bit, Cleese teaches, "is to never push the unsuspecting victim too far. With skill and tact, we can keep tensions bottled up for weeks, months, eventually you may induce a nervous breakdown, or better still, actual damage to the brain cells." Cleese and company portray very irritating parents, moviegoers, waiters, and partygoers. Of special interest to Python fans will be an auto mechanic sketch that anticipates the classic "Dead Parrot" sketch, as well as the job interview sketch that later found its way into the Python repertoire. This time capsule gem is, as Cleese observes at one point, "effective, but not very subtle." --Donald Liebenson

As host of his eponymous talk show for nearly a quarter of a century, Merv Griffin said his audience saw him as "every mother's favorite son-in-law." Merv was the man who brought glamour and laughter into America's homes, but didn't shy away from spotlighting serious cultural leaders, controversial figures of the day, or mostly unknowns like Jerry Seinfeld and Tom Cruise. The three-discs of this initial set are filled with almost nine hours of remarkable interviews, including four United States Presidents (Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan); Hollywood royalty like John Wayne, Ingrid Bergman and Orson Welles; and titled royalty like Princess Grace. Culled from the 5,500 shows and 25,000 guests that appeared on the award-winning, critically acclaimed talk-show during its historic broadcast run, The Merv Griffin Show: 40 Of The Most Interesting People Of All Time. Merv Griffin was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2005 Daytime Emmys, adding another Emmy to the sixteen he already owns; he also was the sole honoree at the 2005 Museum of Television and Radio Gala, at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York attended by more than a thousand industry leaders and celebrities. Provocative, intimate and always entertaining, The Merv Griffin Show: 40 Of The Most Interesting People Of All Time hearkens back to an era when the art of conversation was truly an art! A goldmine of archived interviews with some of the most entertaining and influential people in 20th-century America, The Merv Griffin Show: 40 of the Most Interesting People of Our Time is both a pleasure and an educational resource. In this age of skepticism and not getting it, Americans want the truthiness. And no one has more truthiness than it-getter, flagophile, and four-star American hero, Stephen Colbert. Now, with this collection of The Colbert Reports finest moments, you can watch as Stephen shows the nation how he better feels the facts, better justifies injustices, and better knows the districts. So, look up in the sky, above the fruited plain, across the purple mountain majesties. Thisis The Colbert Report. At a liberal three hours, this Colbertrospective is as definitive as The Best of Chappelle's Show. Here are the signature segments ("Better Know a District"), defining moments (the definition of "truthiness", Merriam-Webster's 2006 Word of the Year), classic confrontations ("Papa Bear" Bill O'Reilly, Jane Fonda, and Emmy-stealer Barry Manilow) and essential features (the "Green Screen Challenge" and "Stephen Colbert's Rock and Awe: Countdown to Guitarmageddon,") If you're a recent immigrant to Colbert Nation, this DVD is your passport for full citizenship. A spin-off of The Daily Show, The Colbert Report (those T's are silent) is a pitch-perfect parody of self-mythologizing TV pundits ("This show is not about me," Colbert, in full gravitas, proclaims in episode 1. "It is dedicated to you, the heroes. Who are the heroes? The people who watch this show"). Colbert is a "straight shooter" who doesn't trust books ("they're all fact and no heart") and he promises to "feel the news at you." But the media-savvy Colbert doesn't just feel the news, he makes news. Included is his jaw-dropping "Better Know a District" interview with Florida Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler, who was running unopposed in the 2006 Midterm election, prompting Colbert to goad him into saying "a few things that would really lose the election for you if you were contested" ("I enjoy the company of prostitutes because it's a fun thing to do"). Soon after, the Democratic leadership told incoming-freshman congressmen to steer clear of the Report. Colbert has ab...

The 2004 race for the White House was one of the most memorable presidential elections of the last five years. Now relive it again - and again - and, that's enough - with this exquisitely packaged heirloom collection. This 3-DVD set brings together some of the most repackageable moments from "Indecision 2004." The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is so laugh-out-loud funny that Indecision 2004--which could have been a dated recap of a time many would rather forget--is instead a hilarious time capsule of the follies and foibles of the 2004 presidential election. What also helps is that many of the issues being lampooned, such as the Iraq war, are still in the news in 2005. The 10 episodes included in the three-disc set are the four reporting on the Democratic National Convention, the four from the Republican National Convention, the episode following the first Bush-Kerry debate, and the hourlong election-night episode, subtitled "Prelude to a Recount." The Daily Show mimics the format of a news program, with Stewart as the anchor and his troupe of "senior correspondents/analysts"--Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, Samantha Bee, and Ed Helms--filing their "reports" from the field. Stewart is always quick to dismiss his show as "fake news," but an increasing number of people have taken to the Comedy Central staple as the way to get their news. Political news is mostly sound bites anyway, so Stewart piles the video clips together at their most incongruous or contradictory, then follows up with a wisecrack or a marvelously deadpan look of disbelief. As further proof of its impact, The Daily Show won a 2005 Peabody Award for electronic media excellence for its "satire that deflates pomposity on an equal opportunity basis." (Stewart admitted during the campaign that he himself was voting for Kerry, and his audience is very anti-Bush, but he takes the opportunity to skewer anyone who deserves it.) He also attracts a number of "legitimate" guests. Appearing on these episodes are Ted Koppell, Joe Biden, Chris Matthews...
